Portsmouth, RI - Raymond Seth Ferris, 69, of Longmeadow Road, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2006 at home. He was the husband of the late Jeanne Maynard Ferris, whom he was married to for 40 years before her death. Mr. Ferris was born on September 21, 1936, in Portsmouth, RI and resided there his entire life. He was the son of the late Manuel and Lettie Mae Borden Ferris.He worked as a Fire Fighter for the town of Portsmouth for 20 years before retiring in 1988. He also was employed by J.T. OConnell and Mello Construction Company. He was educated in Portsmouth, enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a graduate of Non Commissioned Officers Academy in 1957. Mr. Ferris was a member of the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department and Portsmouth Portuguese American Citizens Club, he was also an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed the water and fishing. He is survived by two daughters Donna Ferris Groff and Debbie Burgo both of Portsmouth, RI, his brother Robert Ferris of Middletown, RI, five granddaughters, and his friend Virginia Apps. He was the father of the late David Ferris. His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 9:30a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30a.m. in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 12, 2006, from 2-4 and 7-9 in the Connors Funeral Home.
