Middletown, RI - Ricardo Fernandez Romero, 71, of 22 Algonquin Drive, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Elisa ?Elsie? Pascua Romero, who passed away on January 31, 2006. Born in Alaminos, Pangasinan, Philippines, on September 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Leon and Miguela Fernandez Romero Sr.Mr. Romero served in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War. Ricardo was a graduate of Johnson Wales and Fischer Junior College in Fall River, MA. Mr. Romero was an Inbound Counselor on the Newport Navy Base. He was a communicant of St. Lucys Church, a member of the Middletown Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, the Masonic Lodge, and the Phil-Am Association. Mr. Romero was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his son Ricardo Romero Jr. of Newport, RI, his sisters Maria Mendez of Canada, Josefa Padua of Torroance, CA, Remedios Sarmiento of the Philippines and Flora Ayres of Los Angeles, CA, and many neices and nephews in the Philippines, Canada, California and New York. He was the brother of the late Rodolfo Romero, Rogelio Romero, Pedro Romero, Leon Romero Jr., and Leonardo Romero.His funeral will be held on Monday, June 5, 2006, at 8:00a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00a.m. in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Loyola Cemetery in Alaminos in the Philippines.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2006, from 4-7p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home.
