Portsmouth, RI - Richard Briggs Proctor, 73, of 62 Reise Terrace, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Nashua, New Hampshire, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. He was the husband of Dorothy Ann Pearson Proctor. Born in Melrose, MA on October 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Kenneth W. and Dorothy Briggs Proctor. Mr. Proctor worked at Raytheon for 20 years, retiring as Department Head of Safety and Security on January 9, 1986. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. He was decorated with during his service in Germany. He was a 1951 graduate of Loomis Chaffee school in Windsor, CT. He also attended Northwestern University from 1951 to 1952 and later graduated from Boston University in 1960 after his tour in the Army. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Raytheon Management Club. He was also Den Master of Cub Scouts for the Portsmouth Branch. Mr. Proctor was a Good Samaritan volunteer and a life long member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon college fraternity. Dick was also an active member of the Portsmouth Republican Committee and involved in many town Republican activities. He was also a member of the United Congregational Church where he led the committee organizing its 250th anniversary celebration, and was a former member of Channing Memorial Church. Besides his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his children Richard B. Proctor Jr., of Windham, NH, Roger P. Proctor of Grafton, MA, Thomas M. Proctor of Richmond, RI and Brenda A. Bliss of Falmouth, MA, his grandchildren Alexsandra and Tyler Proctor, Lauren and Kara Proctor, Bethany, Corrine and Hannah Proctor, Ian Proctor, Sam Coffey and Sean Coffey and his great grandchildren Tyler and Jameson Coffey. He was the father of the late Stephen L. Proctor of North Kingstown, RI, who passed away on May 3, 2006, from ALS and the brother of the late Kenneth W. Proctor Jr. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006, at 11:00 am in United Congregational Church, 524 Valley Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, 6365 Post Road, North Kingstown, RI.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2006, from 5-8pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
