Richard "Doc" C. Chapman

Richard "Doc" C. Chapman, age 77, of Newport died Monday, February 29, 2016, at home in Newport surrounded by his family. Mr. Chapman was born June 4, 1938 in Taunton, MA. He was the son of the late Charles H. and the late Grace (Vickery) Chapman. He was the former husband of Judith Neely. Known as Doc and Papa to most, he was an avid fisherman and Red Sox fan. A long time lobsterman for Aquidneck Lobster Company, he loved bingo and collected cans in his spare time. He was also a true animal lover fostering many at a time over his life. Doc was involved in the community garden and spent countless hours growing fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers. He also loved taking rides around town with his dog, Teddy. A loving father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed. He is survived by two daughters: Dawn M. Andrews of Coventry, RI and Dana Chapman of Middletown, RI; four grandchildren, Paul Chapman of Middletown, Joshua Soares of Newport, Katelynn Chapman of Newport, and Courtney Dalton of Newport, three great grandchildren; Isabella Schuy, Bentley Richard Willis and Penelope Schuy; two sisters: Barbara Bradshaw of Middletown, RI and Claudia Vars of Bristol, RI, as well as two brothers: Arnold Chapman of Brandon, MS, and Harold Chapman, Ocala, FL, and one goddaughter, Dawn Aguiar. He also leaves his dog, Teddy.He was predeceased by his brother, William A. Chapman, his sister Diana M. Murphy, his sister Doris Freeze and his grandson, Steven Richard Chapman.Calling hours will be Saturday, March 5, 2016, from 9-11am at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. His funeral will follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
