Newport, RI - Richard Earnest Budlong, Sr., 65, of 116A Girard Avenue Newport, RI, formerly of 13B Woolsey Road, Middletown, RI, died on Thursday, November 6, 2003, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Ann Marie Gonsalves Budlong. Born in Tiverton, RI on January 10, 1938, he was the son of the late James and Beatrice Munroe Budlong. Mr. Budlong was in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1962. After his discharge from the Navy he worked at the former P. M. Shipyard from 1962 to 1975, from 1975 to 1985 he worked at the War College as a Supervisor in the Custodial Department and he was also a custodian at St. Michaels Day School in Newport, from 1995 to 1997. He was a former member of the Drifters Auto Club and a member of the Labors Union. Mr. Budlong enjoyed salt water fishing and ten pin bowling. However his pets Meesue and Sr. Tealy are his life. Besides his wife of 40 years, he is survived by four sons Leon James Budlong, Richard E. Budlong Jr., Earnest R. Budlong and Timothy L. Budlong all of Middletown, RI, two brothers James Budlong and Robert Budlong both of Newport, RI, twenty grandchildren and one great granddaughter.He was the father of the late John H. Budlong, and the brother of the late Russell Budlong, Clarence Budlong, Mildred Brittane, Florence Bateman and Chris Budlong. His funeral will be held on Monday, November 10, 2003, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM, in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
