Richard J. Toner, age 77, of Middletown died on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in Middletown, RI. Richard was born September 8, 1937 in Newport, RI. He is the son of Frank Toner and Grace (Congdon) Toner. He is the husband of Mary Jean (Crombie) Toner of Middletown.Richard grew up in Newport in the Tilley Ave neighborhood and spent many years of his youth working with his family at "Toner's Diner" in Middletown. He also worked for several years as Special Officer in both Newport and Middletown before beginning his career at Raytheon as a Security Guard. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and was known by many for his morning routine and ride to get the newspaper. He never missed and event for his grandkids and great grandkids including sports, school or any of their activities.He is survived by his wife Mary Jean (Crombie) Toner of Middletown, two daughters: Catherine A. Ferreira and her husband Ronnie of Middletown, and Cynthia Gaudet of Portsmouth, and two sons Richard J. Toner of Middletown, RI, Daniel A. Toner and his wife Jackie of Middletown, and six grandchildren, Kara, Danny, Nikolas, Meagan, Ashton, and Jordan, and three great grandchildren, Jayden, Aiyana, and Harper. He also leaves three sisters Margaret Peabody of Newport, Anne Gomes of Newport, and Elizabeth Paradise of Portsmouth, and one brother Frank A. Toner of Florida. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Albro.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 9am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport.Memorial donations may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Association, 2348 Post Road Suite 202, Warwick, RI 02886.
