Richard "Rick" Weeden, 67, died on March 13, 2013, following a 34 year battlewith Parkinson's disease.Born January 14, 1946 in Providence, RI, Rick grew up in Barrington, RI. Hegraduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with an engineering degree, andworked with the Raytheon Corporation where he specialized in sonartechnology.A resident of Portsmouth, RI, Rick was well known for his love of the sea. Hewas an avid sailor and fisherman and made Narragansett Bay and the Northeastcoast his home. When he was no longer able to sail, Rick, Betty, and dogBrandie, traveled much of the East Coast in the family's recreational vehicle.Rick is survived by his wife, Betty (Sargent) Weeden; his daughter Brooke(Weeden) Mastrorio and her husband Mark Mastrorio of Lakeville, MA; hisbrother Curt Weeden and wife Marti of Mount Pleasant, SC.Rick was the inspiration and one of the central fictional characters in the novelDutch Island (Quadrafoil Press - Amazon.com). The book was released in 2012with all proceeds directed to the National Parkinson Foundation in Miami.Rick's life was celebrated at a family memorial on March 16.
