Richard M. Almeida

Richard M. Almeida, age 75, died surrounded by family at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA.Beloved husband for more than 36 years of Elizabeth F. Almeida, he is survived by her, his sister Eileen Correira, brother Claude Almeida (Barbara), son Richard Almeida, step-children Dawn Adiletta (Joseph), Brad Castiglia (Roberta), and Lynn Castiglia, as well as step-grandchildren Jessica Cummings (Kris), and Anne Castiglia. Numerous loved nieces and nephews and two great-grand-children.An avid sportsman throughout much of his life, Richard was a handicapped golfer, and played soccer for the Ponta Sports Club and fast-pitch softball for the Rondo team, both of Fall River. An Army veteran, Richard joined the Bristol, RI police force as a patrolman in 1971, quickly rose through the ranks, served as Interim Chief of Police from July 1995 through Jan 1996, and retired as a Captain in 1998. For many years, he also served as color guard for the Bristol Police Drum Corp. Calling hours will be Friday, January 2, 2015 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. A mass of Christian burial will occur on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00am in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood St. Bristol. Interment will be private.
