Richard Martin Gonsalves, 68, of 24 Coddington Place, Newport, RI, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at home.Born in Newport, RI on July 9, 1943, he was the son of Marie Antone Hines and the late John Gonsalves.Mr. Gonsalves was a graduate of Middletown High School and was a longtime resident of Newport. He worked at Raytheon. He enjoyed sports, dancing and playing basketball at the Rec.He is survived by his mother Marie E. Antone Hines of Middletown, RI, his daughter Alicia Gonsalves and her husband Robert Jordan of Fall River, MA, his former wife Brenda Gonsalves of Newport, RI, his brothers John Gonsalves Jr. of Dartmouth, MA and Billy Gonsalves of Middletown, RI, his sister Donna Matthews of Middletown, RI, his grandson, Akeem Barlow of Fall River, MA, his aunts and uncles, Albert Antone, Josephine Fields, Manuel Antone and Tony Antone, many other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.He was the former companion of the late Belinda Waite. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011, from 6:00-8:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a prayer service at 8PM.
