Richard Mattos Jr

Newport, RI - Richard Mattos, Jr., 44, of Newport, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Fall River, MA on October 26, 1969, he was the son of Lucy (Hancock) Mattos of Newport, RI and the late Richard Mattos. Richard grew up in Rhode Island and worked as a commercial fisherman at a young age. He also worked in construction for Aquidneck Forms in Portsmouth and most recently as a painter. Richard loved fishing at Coreys Lane in Portsmouth, hunting trips to Michigan, and loud motorcycles. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his daughter. Besides his mother, he is survived by his daughter Staryln Rose Mattos of Newport, and his siblings, Harrison Mattos of Bellingham, MA, Robin Tripp and Joyce Mattos of Newport, RI, Mark Buffman of Tiverton, RI and Jennifer Annicelli of Newport, RI as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014, from 4:00-6:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI with a memorial service at 6:00pm.
