Newport, RI - Rita Hologitas, 82, of 28 Thurston Avenue, Newport, RI, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Born in New Bedford, MA on November 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Speros and Stella Bakakeas Hologitas.Rita had moved with her family to the Newport area in 1929. She was a Graduate of Rogers High School. Rita was a bookkeeper for over 40 years for the former West Automotive Parts in Newport. Rita was also the wardrobe mistress of the former Newport Players Guild and was instrumental in raising money to winterize the Newport Casino Theatre. Rita was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, the Newport Art Museum and volunteered in the Giffin Shop at the museum. She was also a member of the Rose Island Light House Foundation, the Edward King House, the Newport Point Association, Friend?s of the Waterfront and a member of the Philoptochos Society of St. Spyridon?s Church, where she also served as treasurer. She enjoyed sewing but loved to cook especially pastry and Easter breads. She is survived by her brother Constantine ?Gus? Hologgitas, her sister in law Dr. Joanne Hologitas both of Newport, RI, and her cousin Mary Daglis of Newport, RI, and numerous second cousins. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 11:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a funeral mass at 12:00 pm in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 30, 2007, from 4-8 in the Memorial Funeral Home.
