Rita M. Busuttil

Rita M. Busuttil, age 69, of Newport passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Newport Hospital. Ms. Busuttil was born October 26, 1946 in Malta. She is the daughter of the late Emanule and Adelina Busuttil.Rita "was one of a kind" as many would say. Those who knew Rita would tell you about her uncanny and somewhat supernatural ability to characterize a person by their nationality. These unique, brutally honest, and comical characterizations had been gathered over the years from the many unsuspecting tourists she served while bartending in Malta. Most people when introducing themselves would ask names, Rita, she wanted to know your nationality. Rita spent a majority of her time giving back to the community as a volunteer with the Salvation Army. She was full of life, loved helping people, and was the life of family gatherings. She was usually the nucleus of every belly laughing moment. Her fire burned bright and she will be sorely missed but never forgotten.In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her brother Freddy Busuttil.She is survived by her sister Frances Josephine Gutierrez. Two brothers, Joe Busuttil and Carmenu Busuttil. Her nieces Patricia Schneider, Sonia Zammit, Natalie Busuttil and nephews Christopher Schneider, Steve Schneider, and Clive Busuttil.Calling hours (Celebration of her life) will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport, RI.
