Rita May Hedly

Rita May (Chorlton) Hedly, 99, of Portsmouth died Sunday, October 20, 2013, at St. Clare Home, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Russell P. Hedly.Born on May 22, 1914, in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Honore (Crowley) Chorlton. Mrs. Hedly lived in Portsmouth for 69 years. She drove for the Red Cross during World War II, loved to dance and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.She is survived by her children, David S. Connor and Deborah Chorlton Lucente both of Portsmouth, RI, three grandchildren and several great grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Richard D. Connor, and sister of the late George Chorlton, Ellis Chorlton, Charles Chorlton, Clifford Chorlton, Ida Manning, Claire Tisdell and Helen Johnson. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 10am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, East Main Road, Portsmouth.
