Robert Bowerman

Robert Henry Bowerman, 83, of Middletown, RI. It is with sad regret to announce that Robert Bob Bowerman, after a lengthy illness, has passed on 12 March 2012. His sharp intellect and pleasant smile were very much intact until the very last. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 28, 1928, Bob, 83, was the son of the late Ralph K. and Dorothy Ure Bowerman.He served as a Master of St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 1 in Newport, RI in 1963. He joined St. Johns Masonic Lodge in 1957 and received his 50 year pin in 2007. He was the husband of Claire Theberge Bowerman and the father of Linda Louise Bowerman Eric Grosskurth of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Diane Cecile Bowerman Nicola of Hoboken, New Jersey. He was the grandfather of two grandsons, Alex and Kevin, and two granddaughters, Alice and Lila.Bob was a 1949 Electrical Engineer graduate of Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1962, he received a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering from Northeastern University and later an additional Masters Degree in Value Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. He began his engineering career in Newport, RI as a Philco Engineer in the early 1950s and then joined NUSC on the Newport Naval Base in 1954. He was employed there as an Engineer for 32 years. Bob leaves behind a sister, Debbie Cross of Euclid, Ohio. He also leaves behind three nieces and nephews.His varied interest included automated musical instruments, genealogy, numismatics, vintage electronics, crossword puzzles and the collection and repair of antique locks and clocks. There will be a memorial service at St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI at 11:00am on Saturday, March 24, 2012 to be followed by a Masonic graveside service. Donations in his memory may be sent to the Dialysis Center of Tiverton, Activities Fund, 22 Hurst Lane, Tiverton, RI 02878, the John Clarke Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842, or to a charity of ones choice.
