Robert C. Kinne Newport, - Robert C. Kinne, 84, of 51 Bridge Street, Newport, formerly of Thompson, CT, died Sunday, April 27, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. He was the companion of Carol C. Flohr of Newport, and former husband of Mary Petersen Kinne of Thompson, CT. Born in Bristol, CT on December 5, 1918, he was the son of the late Clarence Kinne and Jane Carter Kinne. Mr. Kinne served our country during the Second World War in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the European Campaign in Russian Convoy operations aboard the U.S.S. Wichita as well as the Asiatic Pacific Campaign with the Third Marine Division.Mr. Kinne went on to fulfill a 35 year career with Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1980 as Regional Manager in Putnam, Connecticut. He had served as Past President of the Rotary Club and the Putnam area Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Putnam and was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He loved the sea, sailing, music, photography, reading and sketching. He was quite fond of gardening and the outdoors. He is survived by his companion Carol C. Flohr; Mary Petersen Kinne, the mother of his children, Robert A. Kinne of West Boylston, MA, Stephen P. Kinne of Fairfield, CT, and David R. Kinne of Narragansett, RI; one brother John Kinne of Guilford, CT, and 3 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Brian S. Kinne, a sister Jean Peterson, and his wife Mary ?Mitzie? Busch Kinne. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 1:00pm in Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport. Burial will be private in Thompson, CT.
