Middletown, RI - Robert Johnny Carr Hale, 80, of 120 Central Park South, New York, New York and Middletown, RI, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI.Born in Newport, RI on April 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Harold D. and Anne Hughes Hale.He is survived by his brothers, Harold D. Hale, Jr. and Frank S. Hale of Middletown, RI, his sisters, Barbara A. Ford, Jane C. Hale and Suzanne H. Nunes also of Middletown, RI, and Mary Elizabeth Petsy Silvia of Ellicott City, MD, as well as many nieces and nephews.Mr. Hale was a 1949 graduate of De La Salle Academy. He attended Syracuse University in New York followed by a four year tour of duty in the Air Force. He then went on to study at Columbia University in New York City graduating in 1958. He lived and worked in New York City all of his adult life. He began a lengthy career in marketing administration, at Music Corporation of America, followed by Lincoln Center, Booz Allen Hamilton, Lehman Brothers and American Express. He was an avid reader, world traveler and supporter of the New York City Metropolitan Opera and Lincoln Center. During his retirement, he enjoyed many hours working with his brother Bud, his nephews and other family members in the fields of the family business, Newport Vineyards. Calling hours will be held on Monday June 6, 2011, from 5-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at 9:00 am at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Marys Church, 12 Williams Street, Newport.Burial will follow at Island Cemetery Annex on VanZandt Avenue, Newport.
