Robert Donald Cooper, 92, formerly of 50 Seascape Avenue, Middletown, and 92 Stagecoach Road, Portsmouth, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010 at St. Clare Home in Newport.He was the husband of the late Madelin Barbara Pedro Cooper.Born in Avery County, NC on September 17, 1917, he was the son of the late George Washington Cooper and Jane Turbeville Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a US Army Veteran of World War II and worked as an auto assembler for General Motors in Baltimore, MD before retiring. He was a member of the C.B. Club of Middletown known as Covered Wagon and was an avid fisherman and hunter.He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Ann Cooper Dugan of Marion, NC; two step-daughters, Joan M. Angel and Patricia A. Botelho, both of Portsmouth, RI; a step-son, William E. Sullivan of Bristow, OK; a sister-in-law, Ruth Cooper; two grandchildren, Shaun Cooper and Dana Shaffer; and four great-grandchildren, Shawn Tyler Shaffer, Brent Anthony Shaffer, Nathan Chance Shaffer and Shannon Leigh Cooper. He was the step-father of the late Edmund E. Sullivan, Jr. and was the brother of the late Frank, Corbett, Wesley, Virgie, Edith, Luvine, Hazel, Mamaline, Molly and Bessie Cooper.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 10 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial with military honors will follow in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 4-8 pm in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
