Robert D. Stubbs, age 65, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on September 25, 2022 at home. He was the loving husband of Casey (Romero) Stubbs.
Robert was born in Santa Monica, CA to Robert and Moira Stubbs. At age 17 he enlisted in the US Navy and enjoyed a 10 year career traveling the world. After the Navy, he remained in Newport and worked for the State of RI, he retired as Chief Power Plant Engineer after a rewarding career. He enjoyed life, and was willing to explore any interest or topic. He was very persistent at gardening, though he never got his corn to grow very well. He also enjoyed brewing his own beer, and eating lots of lobster. He loved building things, from furniture in his home, to a dragon boat that sailed throughout Narragansett Bay. He dabbled in motorcycles, singing and guitar, and spent many days developing his bow hunting skills. Most recently he starting taking flying lessons in Middletown. Robert also loved his Scottish heritage, proudly wearing a kilt when he could, the sound of bagpipes, or reading about the history of his family in Scotland.
Robert is survived by his wife Casey Stubbs, his daughter Sarah Llamas of El Paso, TX, his son Paul Stubbs of Ashaway, and his grandchildren; Logan, Noah, and Lucy.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 13 from 4:00-7:00pm, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840.
Funeral Services will be held on day Friday, October 14, at 10:30am in the Memorial Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI at 12:00 Noon.
