Robert Edward Kirby, 94, died peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at St. Clare Home in Newport.He was born on August 5, 1920 in Holyoke, MA to John and Beatrice (Dufault) Kirby. Bod graduated from Milton High School and served with the Army Air Corps in World War II. He then graduated from Bentley University and married Natalie "Tommie" McLaughlin, his wife of 62 years. They had two children and lived for 15 years in Norwood, OH before moving to Swampscott, MA in 1968 while working for General Electric.Bob was a great bridge player, first during lunch breaks at G.E. and later with the Senior Centers in Swampscott and Natick, MA. He was an active parishioner at St. John's Church in Swampscott and then at St. Patrick's Church in Natick. He loved spending winters with Tommie for over twenty years in Bradenton, FL Bob is survived by his daughter, Joyce and her husband Michael Greene of Newport, RI; his daughter-in-law, Adele of Peabody; his grandsons, Chaim Kirby and his wife Eliana of Chicago and Joshua Kirby of Haverhill; his granddaughter, Kirby Kochanowski of Newport; and his great-grandson, Amichai Kirby of Chicago.He was preceded in death by his wife, Tommie, and his son, Michael.Funeral services will be held at a later time to be announced.Donations in Bob's name may be sent to St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840.
