Portsmouth, RI - Robert Francis Gunning, 95, of 22 Sherman Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI.He was the husband of the late Catherine Mary Hosking Gunning. Born in Fall River, MA on October 3, 1915, he was the son of the late John A. and Henrietta Smith Gunning.Mr. Gunning served in the United States Navy, during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked as an electrical engineer at the Torpedo Station for 40 years. Mr. Gunning was an amateur radio operator since 1935, loved tinkering with electronics, and in the spring loved to tend to his flower gardens and blueberries. He is survived by his son Thomas Gunning of Portsmouth, RI, his daughter Patricia Gunning of Acton, MA, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in St. Patricks Cemetery in Fall River.
