Jamestown, RI - Robert H. Adams, 70, of 151 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown, RI, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Julia B. Beeghly Adams. Born in New York City, NY on March 2, 1940, he was the son of the late Frederick and Harriet Woodard Adams.Mr. Adams was a self employed sail maker for 50 years, retiring in 2009 and he also worked as a self employed contractor for many years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newport where he served as a deacon and an elder. Mr. Adams was a member of the Cruising Club of America. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and served as troop leader of Troop 33 of Newport. He was an avid sailor and his family was the first to sail across the Atlantic Ocean as a family. He was very active in Alpha Tan Omega fraternity at Mount Union College. Besides his wife of 47 years, he is survived by his son Charles B. Adams and his wife Corrie of Bessemer, PA and his brother Gerard Adams of Underhill, VT.His funeral will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at 2:00 pm in First Presbyterian Church, Broadway and Everett, Newport.Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
