Tiverton - Robert H. Hayden, 67, of Tiverton, died Monday, June 16, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, MA. Born in St. Claire, MI on Oct. 3, 1946, he was the son of the late David H. Hayden and Alma F. (Martin) Hayden, and brother of the late Ronald D. Hayden. Bob worked for Raytheon Company for over 30 years, and for General Electric the first 6 years of his engineering career. The last five years at Raytheon, he worked as Technical Lead on the AQS-22 Acoustic Low Frequency Sonar (ALFS). After retiring, he contracted for six years on ALFS as a consultant for NAVAIR, Raytheon, and Thales. As Project Engineer, he worked on AN/SQQ-62B Directional Command Activated Sonobuoys (DICAS). As Engineering Section Manager, he was responsible for both digital and analog projects. At General Electric, he worked as a design engineer on the Long Range UHF Perimeter Acquisition Radar (PAR). He also worked on a start-up facility to produce 250 commercial radios per day, responsible for the calibration laboratory, final test, and production support. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan State University, took numerous courses at Bryant College toward an MBA, and GE and Raytheon management and technical courses. He worked in a small machine shop (lathe and milling machine) to support his college education and had a first class FCC license while working as a tech in a small radio station. Bob enjoyed woodworking, metalworking, restoring machinery and old tractors, working on his historic 1822 house and barn, and family time. He was a former Tiverton Youth Soccer Coach and Traveling Team Coach, the Vice Chair of the RI Friends of the NRA, and member of the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club. He was a founding member of the East Bay Patriots, the RI Tea Party, and the Tiverton Taxpayers Association. He helped to design and build the three RI Tea Party floats for the Bristol 4th of July parade. Bob was a history buff, a great dad and grandpa, and a good friend. He was a loving, kind, generous man, who was hard-working and fully devoted to everything he did, and made sure things were done the right way. A can-do kinda guy. He is survived by his wife Susan E. Anderson of Tiverton, RI, his son Adam R. Hayden of Newport, RI, his daughter Ellyn M. Hayden and her son Isaac of Bristol, RI, and several nieces and nephews in Michigan. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 5 pm to 9 pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road in Portsmouth, RI. His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 9 am from the funeral home, with a funeral service at 10 am in the Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church, 1264 Stafford Road in Tiverton.
