Robert Henry Vars

Robert Henry Vars, 78, of 15 Third Street, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, May 15, 2006 at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Mary Margaret Vars. Born in Newport, RI on June 15, 1927, he was the second son of the late Edmund and Anna ?Nan? Rathkamp Vars.Bob spent his life as an electrician, a proud member of IBEW local 99, working for several contractors throughout the Newport area. He became a Master Electrician before retiring in 1989. He was friendly and good- natured, always ready with a joke or to lend a hand, and brought a smile to all who knew him. He was respected by his co-workers and well like by everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing and looked forward to the start of the fishing season each year. He especially loved the time he spent building things for his granddaughters.Bob was the proud and doting father of two daughters, Linda Joy Vars of Newport and Laurie Jean Bradburn of West Greenwich, and a very special ?grampy? to Lily Elsbeth Bradburn, 15 and Isabel Mary Bradburn, 10. He is also survived by two sisters, Anna ?Bunny? Silvia of Portsmouth and Jeanne Miller of Canoga Park, California, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Edmund ?Junior? Vars and the late Kenneth Vars. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 19th at 11:00 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Friday, May 19 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home.
