Newport, RI - Robert Herbert Carson, Sr., 71, of 18C Coddington Street, Newport, RI, formerly of Framingham, MA, and Philadelphia, PA, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. Born in Newport, RI on February 16, 1933, he was the son of the late James Douglas and Aria Elizabeth Thomas Carson. Mr. Carson was drafted into the United States Army in 1953, serving for two years. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania?s Respiratory Therapy Program before being employed by Children?s Hospital of Philadelphia, PA. Later he was employed by General Electric Medical Systems. He was a computer technician at Digital Electronic Corporation, in Massachusetts until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Carson was a member of the Greater Framingham Community Church, the NAACP, the South Middlesex Men?s Club, and the Rhode Island Chapter of Disabled American Veterans Association. He is survived by his son Robert H. Carson Jr. of San Francisco, CA, his daughter Deborah D. Carson of Burlington, NJ, his brother Theodore L. Carson of Hawaii, his sister Grace A. Greene of Newport, RI, three grandchildren Andre N. Carson-Jones, Aria N. Carson-Jones and Benjamin W. Carson-Hallett all of Burlington, NJ, his dear friend Darlene Ledsinger of Okalahoma, thirteen nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and grand nephews. Services were private. Arrangements were by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
