Robert I. Douglas, 88, of 125 Quaker Hill Lane, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Prospect Avenue, Middletown, RI, died on November 4, 2009 at Brandonwoods of Dartmouth, South Dartmouth, MA.He was the husband of the late Helen Curran Douglas. Born in Fall River, MA on May 17, 1921, he was the son of the late Grover Jacob and Bessie Albro Douglas.Mr. Douglas served in the United States Army, during World War II, serving in India and Burma. He was an expeditor for Raytheon for 19 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Douglas was a former member with his late wife of the Town Howlers Square Dancing Club for 12 years, the Saturday Night Gang and a member of the St. Marys Episcopal Church bowling league known as the church league of Aquidneck Island. He is survived by his very dear friends Clark and Judith E. Tanner of Tiverton, RI.He was the father of the late Anne P. Douglas and brother of the late Shirley Douglas. Memorial services will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 at 11 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held the morning of the service from 10-11 am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
