Robert J. Deveau

Newport, RI - Robert John Deveau, 82, of 33 Third Street, Apt. 2, Newport, RI, died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Barbara Joan Laurence Deveau.Born in Newport, RI on August 13, 1926, he was the son of the late Frederick and Lottie Maillett Deveau.Mr. Deveau was a veteran of World War II and served in Tinian, Saipan and Okinawa with the Enola Gay. He later was employed as a ships carpenter at the Melville Shipyard and Quonset Point for over 30 years. He was a member of the Newport VFW. He wintered in Naples, Florida with his wife for over 20 years where he pursued his interest of precious stones and panning for gold. He was also an avid fisherman. Most of all he was a wonderful dad!Besides his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his children Michael J Deveau of East Greenwich, RI, Eric James Deveau of Canton, GA, Barbara Joan McConnell of Largo, FL and Melisse Jean Altenbrand of Johnston, RI, his sisters Margaret E. McMillan of CA, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.He was the father of the late Robert J. Deveau, Jr. and brother of the late Roger Deveau, Edward Deveau and Elzora F. Tabolinsky.His funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 23, at 11:00am, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
