Portsmouth, RI - Robert J. Marlin, 87, of 100 Quaker Hill Lane, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Silver Spring, MD and Iowa, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Marianne Will Marlin. Born in Keokuk, IA on November 24, 1919, he was the son of the late Earl and Kathryn Barrett Marlin.Mr. Marlin grew up in Iowa, graduated from St. Peters High School and entered the US Army. He served in Infantry on the European Theater and then reentered the Army and joined the Rainbow Division a Paratrooper division. During his service he was awarded two purple hearts and a bronze star. In his retirement form the Army, he and his wife Marianne lived in Texas, Silver Springs, Maryland and then Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He was a loyal member of the VFW, right up until this year. Besides his wife, he is survived by his cousin Elizabeth Nygren Earp of Portsmouth, RI, Evelyn Burken of Battlecreek, MI and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late John Marlin, Rev. Francis Marlin and Edward Marlin. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at 11:00am, in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. A memorial may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor or to the charity of your choice in memory of Robert J. Marlin.
