Newport, RI - Robert James Sullivan, 57, of 16 Tilley Avenue, Newport, RI, died Friday, July 27, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the beloved husband of Nancy H. Hart Sullivan. Born in Newport, RI on September 21, 1949, he was the son of Ruth Sasse Sullivan of Harbor House in Newport and the late James J. Sullivan.Bob was a 1968 graduate of Rogers High School. He worked at WADK Radio for more than 35 years as News Director and became the voice of WADK, hosting the Open Forum. Bob was one of the original judges for the Irish Coffee Competition in Newport, a member of the Newport Jaycees, a toastmaster at the Hibernian St. Patrick Day Roast and the Grand Marshall for the 41st St. Patricks Day Parade in Newport.Bob was always ready with a quip, counting to 4 while waiting for people to get the joke. He will always be remembered for his annual WADK unconventional stint as Santa Claus. Bob loved his community and had the talent for moderating differing opinions with respect. He?ll miss you all. Besides his wife of 22 years and his mother, he is survived by his sister Susan Reise of Newport, RI and his Faithful English Setter Nigel. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 9:00am, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007, from 4-8 in the funeral home.
