Middletown, RI - Robert James Zeller, Jr., 74, of John Clarke Retirement Center, Middletown, RI, formerly of Friendship Street, Newport, died Monday, December 4, 2006 at the center after a brief illness. Born in Newport, RI on November 23, 1932, he was the son of the late Robert James Zeller, Sr. and Mary Alice Auger Zeller.He was a lifelong resident of Newport. Mr. Zeller was an US Army Veteran serving during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He worked as a night auditor for Eastern Resorts and Fairfield Resorts in Newport for over twenty years. He also served as an Auxiliary Policeman in Newport, and worked as a bartender throughout Aquidneck Island. He was a life member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks B.P.O.E. - Lodge 104 Newport; a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars V.F.W. - Post 4487 in Middletown, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Aquidneck Island All-Vets Club, Inc. of Middletown. He is survived by his son Robert A. Zeller Sr. and his wife Barbara of Newport, RI, and two grandsons Bobby Jr. and Zachary. His memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at 10:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Inurnment with military honors will be RI Veteran?s Cemetery, Exeter.
