Robert L. Barrows

Robert L. Barrows, 87, of Newport died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Village House Nursing Home of Newport, RI. He was the husband of Janice Marion (Sharples) Barrows.Born on February 6, 1929 in Portland, ME, he was the son of the late Guy M. and Eleanor (Currier) Barrows.Bob was a 1947 graduate of Rogers High School and worked at the former Industrial National Bank from 1947 to 1969 and then on to the Bank of Newport from 1969 to 1989. He played baseball during the 50's and 60's for the Twilight League and Sunset League, and was a longtime duck pin bowler having played in both the Businessmen's League and the Church League and later bowled 10 pins with his son. Bob was an avid golfer and a member of Wanumetonomy Golf Club and a Red Sox and Patriots Fan.Besides his wife of 68 years, he is survived by his son David A. Barrows and his wife Valerie of Tiverton, RI, his sisters Joanne M. Bidon of East Providence, RI and Barbara A. Champion and her husband Donald of Middletown, RI, his grandson Frederick Sena Jr. and his wife Tina, his great grandchildren, Frederick, Valerie, Nicholas and Nathaniel and his great-great grandchildren, Jaela and Lukus as well as several nieces and a nephew and a very dear friend Colleen Medeiros.He was the brother of the late Albert Barrows and Marilyn Barrows.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016, from 4-7 in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Monday October 3, 2016, at 11am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will follow in Middletown Cemetery, Wyatt and Turner Road, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Spleen Street, 2nd Floor, Framingham, MA 01701.
