Robert Lawton Bryant, 64, of Portsmouth died, unexpectedly and peacefully Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at home in Portsmouth. Robert was born November 3, 1950 in Bethesda, MD the son of the late James Edwin and Abbie Preece (Lawton) Bryant. He married Patricia Lee Skipper in 1985Robert was a graduate of Middletown High School, class of 1969. He was an accomplished mechanic and "Mr. Fix-it". Robert began a long career in the automotive industry at Bryant's Anchor Jenny Service Station in Middletown in 1962.Following service in the United States Air Force; he began working for Harrison Ford (Newport Ford) and at Middletown VW Motors. He had a great mechanical mind and vocation, he could fix anything. He was a hard worker and a free spirit. Bob transitioned to work in auto body at local shops, then into automobile parts and supply. This led to work for Syscon, EGG and Mancon in the supply logistics field for the U.S. Submarine force. With his wife, they purchased the former Sun Set Cabins on West Main Road in Portsmouth, and changed the name to Twin Lanterns, which is still in operation. He enjoyed RV'ing and camping with his wife and family and their dog.He is survived by his wife Patricia L. (Skipper) Bryant, his son Christopher M. Skipper, his brothers William Jennings Bryant and James Edwin Bryant Jr., both of Portsmouth, and his sister Rev. Dr. Mary Jane Korte, of Wichita, KS.Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2015 from 4-7pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.His funeral will be held on Wednesday July 22, 2015 at 11:00 am in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be private.Memorial Donations may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
