- Robert M. Kain, 79, of 41 Baker Road Portsmouth, formerly of 11 Newport Avenue Newport RI, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at home.He was the husband of the late Mildred Thompson Kain. Born in Newport, RI on December 24, 1922, he was the son of the late William P. and Deloria Carrignan Kain. Mr. Kain worked at Quonset Point for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer, then for 5 years for the Newport Housing Authority. He was active with the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years. He was on the Eagle Board of Review, was the Cubmaster of Pack 24 of Coggeshall School for over 25 years and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the ?Neutrality Patrol?, World War II and Korea. He was a member of the junior Chamber of Commerce, a life member of the Newport Lodge of Elks, the VFW, the D.A.V. , and the Newport Yacht Club. He was a Sunday school teacher for over ten years at St. Pauls Methodist Church in Newport. He is survived by his son, Capt. Robert T. Kain, U.S. Army, Ret. of Portsmouth, RI, his daughter Darlene Collins of Portsmouth, RI, his brother Leo Kain of Ellenton, FL, and four grandsons Robert B. Kain, August M. Kain, David M. Kain and Todd J. Collins.He was the brother of the late William ?Penny? Carrigan. His funeral will be held on Monday, June 17, 2002, at 9:00AM, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport.
