Robert Manuel Sousa, 85, of Portsmouth died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at home surrounded by his family.He was the husband of Marion G. (Melanson) SousaBorn on April 2, 1930 in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late Manuel C. and Gertrude (Bettencourt) Sousa. Mr. Sousa served during the Korean War in the United States Air Force. After the Air Force, he joined the Portsmouth Police Department where he was the 1st Juvenile Officer, helped start the first police union and introduced the "Drug Trailer" lecturing on the use of drugs. He was a member of Outdoor World Camping, the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, a life member of the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center, a life member of the VFW Post 8191 in Florida, the DAV RI Chapter 15 Lawson-Raposa East Bay, Past Commander 80-81 DAV Kerins-Hogan #7 RI.Besides his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his son, Robert M. Sousa and his wife Talitha of Cocoa Beach, FL, his grandson, Chad J. Sousa of Canton, OH and his granddaughter, Marci M. Sousa of Las Vegas, NVHe was the brother of the late Delight G. Pimentel.Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 24, from 4-8pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.His funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 9:00AM, from the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM, in St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
