Newport, RI - Robert N. Boyle, 86, of 14 Garfield Street, Newport, died Friday, April 6, 2007 at Village House Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Eileen Theresa Hachey Boyle. Born in Mooseup, CT on December 22, 1920, he was the son of the late Eugene and Florence Burdick Boyle. He is survived by his daughter Pamela Boyle of Newport, RI, and three sons Stephen Boyle of Portsmouth, RI, Richard Boyle of Newport, RI, and Charles Boyle of Virginia Beach, VA, a grandson Jeremy Boyle and a granddaughter Mary Eileen Boyle.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Claramon and Floyd Boyle, and a sister Mildred Wood.Robert grew up in Sterling, Connecticut and joined the US Navy at the age of 18. He served for over 20 years, including the full length of WWII. While on board, he was on route to Pearl Harbor when their ship was delayed by a storm, and they didn?t return to port until after the attack. After his retirement from the Navy, he and his family settled in Newport. Here he held many different jobs, including several years at Marcucci?s on Broadway and also worked as a record company distributor, traveling around the country delivering music to record stores. He was a member of Green Valley Country Club and he also loved music. After his wife died in 1992, he began learning to play the piano, and became quite proficient, even buying his own piano just two years later. His funeral services will be private.
