PORTSMOUTH, RI - Robert N. Ferris, 70, of 11 Morningside Lane, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Common Fence Point, Portsmouth, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Mary McMahon Ferris. Born in Fall River, MA on June 3, 1935, he was the son of the late John Oscar and Jeanette Lemieux Ferris. Bob served in the United States Navy for 5 years and then the Army for 2 years. He graduated from the Culinary Institution of America in New Haven, CT. Bob was the executive chef for the Rhode Island Country Club then for the Pier Restaurant from 1964 to 1980. He then went to work at the SS Newport and Abraham Manchesters in Adamsville, RI. Bob was a one time amatuer radio operator and he also enjoyed playing golf. Besides his wife of forty eight years he is survived by his children John Ferris of Portsmouth, RI, Kathy Ferris and Coleen Williams both of Middletown, RI, and his granddaughter Keelyn Elizabeth Ferris of Middletown, RI. His funeral services and burial will be private.
