Middletown, RI - Robert William Owens, 84, of 164 Boulevard Middletown, died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of Ruth Evans Owens. Born in New York, NY on November 26, 1919, he was the son of the late Harold B. Daisy Koschny Owens Kennedy. Mr. Owens entered into the Civil Service in 1940 as an apprentice machinist at the Newport Torpedo Station. He then joined the Air Force and served during WWII with the 20th Air Force in the Pacific Theater. He then rejoined civil service working at NUSC retiring in 1977 as an engineer. Mr. Owens was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Middletown Public Library, the Middletown Historical Society, and the Middletown Senior Center, where he served on its Board of Directors. He also served on the Middletown Planning Board. Besides his wife he is survived by his son and daughter in-law Douglas M. and Deborah Bryant Owens Sr., of Tiverton, RI, her daughter Pamela Shaw of Salsibury Beach, MA, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at 10:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
