Newport, RI - Roberta Farley, 97, of 15 Toppa Blvd, Newport, RI, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Born on July 26, 1910, in Greenfield, Mass, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Agnes Wood Martin. She was the wife of the late Floyd E. Farley, a Lt Cdr in the US Navy from Indiana. He was a decorated veteran, earning the Bronze Star with Combat V and a Purple Heart while serving in the Pacific Theater. As a Navy wife she lived in several places, during WWII she was living in the Philadelphia area and worked in a factory inspecting and testing machine guns. After her husband died in 1957, she moved to RI and worked at Raytheon for many years. In 1959 Bobbie was awarded the Gray Lady of the Year by the National American Red Cross, for helping wounded veterans recuperate. One of her personal loves was for her five purebred Yorkies. She is survived by a niece, Sally Hamilton of PA, and her neighbors and guardians, Larry and Sharlene Newsome of Newport. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 25, at 4:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.
