Rocco Anthony DeComo, USN Retired, of 14 Canonicus Avenue, Newport, RI, died at home on Tuesday, November 11th, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Donandrea Reilly DeComo.Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Peter and Michelina Marino DeComo.Mr. DeComo served in the United States Navy for 20 years, achieving the rank of Chief Boatswains Mate. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. After retiring from the Navy, he settled in Newport and started a family. He worked at Raytheon in Portsmouth for over 20 years, retiring in 1988. In his leisure time and retirement, Rocco enjoyed the beach, reading, cooking, painting pictures and listening to music. Rocco made every Sunday and Holiday a special occasion by preparing memorable meals, featuring homemade soups, pasta, and desserts. He also enjoyed annual family vacations to Maine and New York.Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Peter DeComo and Robert Sewall of Portsmouth, RI, his daughters Marcia Pereira of Shrewsbury, MA, and Katherine Myette of Portsmouth, RI, his sister Ann Fonti of Newport and his 11 grandchildren, Anthony, Adrienne and Emilee Pereira, Robert Jr., Caitlin, Megan and Matthew Sewall, Andrew and Donandrea Myette and Gabriella and Juliana DeComo. He was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa LaGreca.His funeral will be held on Friday, November 14th, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday Nov 13th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, in the Memorial Funeral Home.
