Roger Jerome Brown Jr. Middletown, RI - Roger Jerome Brown Jr., 52, of 40 Maplewood Road, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Brigham and Womens Hospital, Boston, MA. Born in Newport, RI, on July 2, 1953, he was the son of Roger Jerome Brown Sr. of Portsmouth, RI, and the late Dorothy Vieira Brown. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Key West High School, Class of 1971. During the 1970s, Mr. Brown had worked as a cook at Newport and Palm Beach Jai Alai. He then went to work as a chef at the Bay Voyage Inn in Jamestown for 12 years. He had also worked as the food service manager at the Naval War College and as a chef at the Long Wharf Steak House. He then returned to Newport Grand as a chef manager, where he had worked for the past 6 years. He was a Communicant of St. Lucys Church in Middletown. Mr. Brown was a member of the American Culinary Institute where he was voted Chef of the Year in 1990. Mr. Brown was a mechanic at heart, loved his Harley Davidsons, but most of all he was happiest in the kitchen. Besides his father, he is survived by a son Roger Jerome Brown III of Stuart, FL, two brothers Robert Brown of Tiverton, RI, and Wayne Brown of Portsmouth, RI, and a sister Susan Brown of Portsmouth, RI, and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 8:00 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in St. Lucy?s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, from 4-7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home.
