Romaine Olney Perry

Romaine Olney Perry, 94, of Waltham, MA, formerly of Cambridge, MA and Newport, RI, died Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Meadow Green Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Waltham, MA.Born in Newport, RI on November 15, 1918, Romaine was the daughter of the late Mary Howard and Rudolph H. Perry. She spent her early childhood years, living with her grandfather, Aaron Church Perry Jr., in Newport, RI. Ms. Perry later moved to Massachusetts, with her aunt and uncle, Emmett and Amanda "Auntie Jim" (Perry) Peters, where she remained for the rest of her life.Ms. Perry was a clerk at the Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles for over 50 years, retiring in 1993. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Cambridge, MA where she also volunteered as parish treasurer for many years. Romaine was always held in high esteem and sincerely loved by everyone who knew her.Ms. Perry is survived by her nieces and nephews, the children of Barbara (Billups) Evans Stafford: Jacqualyne Evansmcrae of Woodbridge, VA, June Evans of Annapolis, MD, Patricia Gunn, Walter K. Evans, Sr., Francis Evans, Vivian Hilton and Maria Evans all of Newport, RI, ; Janice Turner of Washington, DC, and Victoria Evans of Norfolk, VA and the children of Oliver H. Billups Jr.: Wanda Holloway, Linda Jones, Donna Shelton of Columbus Ohio, Monica Billups of Atlanta, Ga. and Wayne Billups of Newport, RI.. She also leaves numerous cousins and relatives from Block Island, RI, Massachusetts and Connecticut.Her funeral services will be on January 3, 2012 at 1 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, R.I. Burial will be immediately following at the Island Cemetery Annex.
