Rose Bergeron Church

Rose Marie Bergeron Church, 94, of 283 Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown, RI. She was the wife of retired merchant marine Captain Vernon F. Church. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in January 2004, having been married January 21, 1932. Born in New Bedford, MA, on Dec. 25, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Bergeron and the late Marie Louise Vanasse Bergeron. Mrs. Church will be remembered for her love for her family and her fondness for children and infants. She was a member of the Portsmouth Multi-purpose Senior Center and was a former Brownie troop leader.An avid gardener and traveller, she was a former member of the Portsmouth Garden Club and of the Wally Byram Airstream Caravan Club. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, merchant marine Captain Donald V. Church of Bristol, RI, and Harry J. Church of Portsmouth, RI; one daughter Verna C. Westhaver of Portsmouth, RI; Six Grandchildren and Ten Great Grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Donalda Morley. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, Apr. 7, at 10:00 AM in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will follow in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Ave., Portsmouth.
