Newport, RI - Rose M. (DeMello) Rodericks Gomes, 104, formerly of Eustis Avenue, Newport, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at John Clarke Health Care Center Middletown, RI. Rose was the wife of the late Francisco L. Gomes and the late Joseph Rodericks. Born on the farm at Sachuest Point in Middletown, RI on October 8, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Vieira DeMello and Maria (Bernardo) DeMello. Rose was a house keeper for many people in Newport and Middletown. She was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church. Rose and her first husband were the first ones married at Jesus Saviour Church after it was built. She loved working at all the church functions. Rose is survived by her two sons, Joseph A. Rodericks and Manuel Rodericks and his wife Kay Gray, her stepson Jose L. Gomes, her sister Francelina Veader of Rehoboth, MA and many nieces, nephews, grandsons, granddaughters and great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Jesse Vieira DeMello, Joseph Vieira DeMello, Mary V. Lima, Filomena "Fanny" Escobar, Anna DeSilvia and Frances V. Pinheiro. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 8am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John Clarke Retirement and Nursing Center, Activity Fund, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
