Rose Rosa

Middletown, RI - Rose Emily (Andrews) Rosa, 104, of Middletown, died Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Antonio Correia Rosa. Born in Dighton, MA on September 9, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria C. (Medeiros) Andrews. Mrs. Rosa was a member of Jesus Saviour Church, the Holy Rosary Sodality and the Middletown Senior Center. A housekeeper and nanny before her marriage, she became a homemaker until her children were grown. She returned to housekeeping later in life working until she was 100 years old. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening. She is survived by her children, James C. Rosa and his wife Merriall of Santa Rosa, CA, Gladys R. Silveira and her husband Manny of Middletown, RI, Mary Ann Balance and her husband Carl of Berlin, MD, Julia T. Humble and her husband Jack of Portsmouth, RI, and Alice E. Escobar and her husband Joseph of Portsmouth, RI, twenty eight grandchildren, forty three great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Lena Rosa and Antone C. Rosa, Jr.She was the sister of the late Mary Garcia, Manuel Andrews, Lena Garcia, Anthony Andrews, Julia Pimento and Gladys Duarte. Calling hours will be held on Sunday September 29, 2013, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 8:00 AM from Memorial Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.
