Roy Louis Souza

MIDDLETOWN, RI - Roy Louis Souza, 83, of 7 Pocahontas Drive, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at home. He was the husband of the late Georgiana Resendes Souza. Born in Middletown, RI, on January 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Manuel and Anna Pinhero Souza.Mr. Souza was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII, as a Boatswains Mate, landing at Anzio Beach, on board the USS New Mexico. Roy was the owner and operator of R.L. Souza Insurance Agency at two-mile corner in Middletown, representing Nationwide Insurance for over 40 years, retiring in 1993. Besides insurance he was a partner in the former Park Motors Service Station, formerly the Gulf Gas Station at one mile corner. An avid golfer and a charter member of the Wanumentonomy Country Club, he was a member for over forty years and enjoyed playing all four seasons. Mr. Souza was a former member of The VFW Post 4487 in Middletown and a member of the Knights of Columbus 4201 also in Middletown. Roy was a member of the Middletown Zoning Board of Review for over 20 years, including several terms as Chairman. He was a Communicant of Jesus Savior Church. He is survived by two sons, Roy L. Souza Jr. and Adam J. Souza both of Middletown, RI, a daughter Christine L. Manchester of Bristol, RI, a brother Albert Souza of Virginia Beach, VA, and two granddaughters Kara C. Rocha and Katie L. Manchester both of Bristol, RI. He was also the brother of the late Adam Nelson Souza and Madeline Petroccini.His funeral will be held on Friday, December 23, 2005, at 9:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2005, from 4-8PM in the Memorial Funeral Home.
