Newport, RI - Russell Anthony Walsh, 90, of John Clarke Retirement Center, Middletown, RI formerly of 40 Third Street Newport, RI died Friday, March 4, 2005 at the center.He was the husband of the late Isabel Mae McMillan Walsh. Born in Fall River, MA on April 20, 1914, he was the son of the late Cleveland R. and Edith Covell Gray Walsh. Mr. Walsh served in the United States Army during World War II. He was in the 260th infantry regiment in Rhineland Europe. Mr. Walsh was the Director of Civilian Food Services at the Naval Air Station in Quonset Point for 20 years, retiring in 1974. He was past commander of the American Legion, past secretary of the United Veterans Council, past vice commander of the Veterans of Foreign War in Middletown, RI and a life member of the Narragansett Lodge of Masons in Fall River, MA. Mr. Walsh was also on the Miantonomi Park Commission of Newport, RI. Russell was very active with the Veterans Groups in the Newport Area and was always there to honor our fallen comrades, lest we forget. He is survived by his loving sons Russell G. Walsh of Newport, RI, and Donald M Walsh of Bridgewater, MA, five grandchildren Andrew Walsh of Canton, MA, Corey Walsh of Browington, VT, Kimberly Dellinger of Saunderstown, RI, Karolyn Bowley of Middletown, RI, and Keri Brandariz of Middletown, RI, and eight great grandchildren Ryan Bowley, Christopher Bowley, Alexander Bowley and Dylan Brandariz all of Middletown, RI, Autum Walsh and Aiden Walsh both of Brownington, VT and Megan Dellinger and Kelsey Dellinger both of Saunderstown, RI. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at 11:00AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Island Annex Cemetery in Newport.
