Middletown, RI - Russell J. McIntyre, 92, of Middletown, RI passed away peacefully on August 10, 2014 at Village House in Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Muriel C. (Larson) McIntyre Born in Medford, MA on July 14, 1922, he was the son of the late George L. McIntyre and Alice M. (Mann) McIntyre. Russell grew up in Dorchester, MA. He joined the United States Navy and served during WWII as a Chief Electricians Mate until his discharge in 1945. He married Muriel C. Larson and they settled in Sharon, MA. He went on to earn a BA from Northeastern University and own a Boston Electrical Engineering Consulting Firm that specialized in shopping malls and hospitals including the Newport Hospital. He was active in local politics and served on various town committees. In 1986 he and his wife retired to Middletown, RI where for 25 years they enjoyed life by the ocean. Following the death of Muriel his beloved wife of 66 years he moved to Blenheim-Newport Assisted Living. Russell had a life-long love for golf which began when he attended caddy camp in Hyannisport, MA and finished after 30 years of playing with friends at the Green Valley Country Club. Middletown is where he satisfied his love of lobster, golf and family. He is survived by two daughters, Janet McIntyre Cook and husband Thomas of Middletown, RI, and Cynthia McIntyre and husband Charles Kron of Fort Myers, FL. He was the proud grandfather of Jennifer (Cook) Dodd and husband Timothy; and Kaitlyn (Cook) Robertson and husband Stephen. He is also survived by four great grandchildren Owen and Graham Dodd and Ella and Cole Robertson. Russell is also survived by his brother Robert. He was predeceased by his daughter Sandra McIntyre Lussier.A private memorial will be held at a later time.
