Tiverton, RI - Russell J. Morgan, 95, of Tiverton, RI died on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Grand Islander Rehab Center in Middletown, RI after a brief illness. Born in New Bedford, MA on March 21, 1919 he was the son of the late James William Morgan and Margaret (Finch) Morgan. As a young man he began work at the Naval Torpedo Station, and then entered the US Navy during WWII. After the War, he returned to his career as a machinist. He worked for many years for Raytheon, and later for Schaefer Marine. Russell was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in New Bedford. He also was very active with community recreation, as a member of the city Recreation Commission and as an early member of the Panther's Club, supporting youth sports in New Bedford. For the last 40 years, he has been living in Tiverton, enjoying time woodworking.He is survived by a son Alan Morgan of St. Charles, MO and a daughter Sandy Taylor of Columbia, TN. He also leaves his dear friend Mary Fontes of Tiverton, and 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a brother Clifford Morgan and a sister Muriel Morgan.His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 with visiting hours from 10:00am to 11:00am with a Masonic Prayer Service to follow at 11:00am in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Rd, Portsmouth, RI. Burial with military honors will follow in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton.
