Russell Newton Drury

Russell N. Drury, 60, of William Street, Newport, RI, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at home after a brief illness.He was the beloved husband of Paula L. Pelletier Drury.Born in Boston, MA on November 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Florence Russ Drury.Mr. Drury was a Social Studies and English Teacher at Portsmouth High School for 31 yrs. before retiring in 2001. A 1965 graduate of Grafton MA High School, he received his B.A. in History from Framingham State in 1969 and his M.A. in History from Northeastern University in 1972.He was a member of N.E.A. and N.E.A. Retired. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and did extensive traveling, most recently to Vietnam.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-son, Jason Violette of Del Rio, TX and granddaughter, Kayla Violette also of Del Rio, TX.A memorial service will be held Monday, May 12, 2008 at 7 pm in Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport.Calling hours will be held Monday, May 12, 2008 from 5 - 7 pm in the funeral home prior to the memorial service.
