Ruth Bailey Glucksman

Middletown, RI - Ruth Bailey Glucksman, 108, of the John Clarke Nursing Center, 600 Valley Road Middletown, RI of New York, died February 9, 2011.She was the wife of the late Dr. Dennis Glucksman DDS. Born in Newport, RI on January 3, 1903, she was the daughter of the late George E. Bailey and the late Phoebe Ann Tew Bailey. Mrs. Glucksman graduated from Newport Hospital Nursing School in 1924. She began work at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City as a nurse. There she met her husband, Dr. Dennis Glucksman. During WWII she volunteered for the Red Cross recruiting other nurses for the Army Nursing Corps. After her husbands death in 1965 she moved back to Newport. Mrs. Glucksman was a member of Emmanuel Church. She previously served on the Board of Directors for Visiting Nurse Services and the Edward King Senior Center until she was in her 80s. She is survived by a niece Marjorie Ruth Burns of Napa, CA, a niece-in-law, Jean Brown of Sacramento, CA, a great niece, Katherine Brown Whitney of Patterson, CA, and many other great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Hazel Bailey Brown. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at 1PM in Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport.
