Newport, - Ruth Stone Dame, 71, of 70 Harrison Avenue Newport, died Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at Village House Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Harry Norman Dame. Born in Newport, RI on February 14, 1933, she was the daughter of Gladys Winslow Barker Stone of Middletown, RI and the late Ashton B. Stone. Mrs. Dame had been a bus driver for many years for the Portsmouth School Department. She also had been a teachers aide at Portsmouth Nursery School. Mrs. Dame had voluntered in the cafeteria at Portsmouth High School, and she had been a bank teller for many years at Bank of Newport. Mrs. Dame was a member of Saint Marys Episcopal Church where she was active in the Pair and Spare Club, A GROUP THAT PUT ON PLAYS She was active with the Portsmouth High School Band Boosters Club, she enjoyed bowling and was an active Red Sox fan. Besides her mother she is survived by four sons Gary Dame of Bristol, RI, Brian Dame of Edgewater, FL, Larry Dame and Rex Dame both of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Cheryl Dame of Portsmouth, RI, two brothers Carl Stone of Portsmouth, RI, and Doug Stone of Warwick, RI, and eleven grandchildren. Mrs. Dame was the sister of the late Gladys Esther Stone. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 1:00 pm in St. Marys Churchyard, East Main Road, Portsmouth.
